As peasants led by Southern Tagalog alliance Katipunan ng mga Samahang Magbubukid sa Timog Katagalugan (Kasama-TK) storm Congress today for the passage of the Genuine Agrarian Reform Bill (HB 272), the College Editors Guild of the Philippines – Southern Tagalog (CEGP-ST) links arms with them in the fight for their right for land.

Paul Carson, interim chairperson of CEGP-ST, says that the current plight of the farmers caught the attention of campus journalists in the region, and is one of the main reasons why they joined the fight for genuine agrarian reform.

“As we hold Basic Masses Integration activities in peasant areas, we deepen our understanding and relationship with the people that are responsible for our daily meals; that they face a similar, if not worse, fate than us,” Carson said.
