STA. ROSA, LAGUNA – A year of injustice; family and colleagues continue their search for their missing kin, Benjamen Villeno, abducted by the US-BS Aquino regime.
On August 27, 2013, exactly a year ago, labour leader, former Pagkakaisa ng Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan – Kilusang Mayo Uno (Solidarity of Workers in Southern Tagalog – May First Movement or PAMANTIK-KMU) president, Benjamen Villeno, was abducted by elements of the military in Cavite.
The Butcher’s Bequest
One of the legacies Jovito “The Butcher” Palparan enculcated to the persistent culture of impunity in the Philippines is the intensified counter-insurgency program. Thousands of individuals and families were victimized under his and The Queen, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s, reign in 2001-2010. The war on terror sowed gravely by The Butcher is sustained under the BS Aquino administration.
For the same motive, Oplan Bayanihan, the counter-insurgency (COIN) program of BS Aquino, operates to behead the mass movement. This COIN still aims for the liquidation of the government’s number 1 critic – the toiling masses.
In this account, Villeno, active workers’ rights advocate and fighter, was obviously abducted with the same reason as the extra-judicial killing, disappearance, and illegal arrest of many others.
ST Workers: Surface Ben Villeno
After a year, Villeno’s family, colleagues, and supporters continue searching for him on and through different places and venues.
According to Hermie Marasigan, PAMANTIK spokesperson, “Ben Villeno has no enemies. There is no one who would wish for his jeopardy aside from the government. He has done nothing but to fight for the rights of the workers and the people. He does not deserve this kind of treatment from the government.”
Villeno’s family and colleagues unceasingly wander the cold streets, lifeless morgues, dark cemeteries, heartless prisons and military camps, and other unimaginable locations just to find him – but has seen not a single thing.
“We firmly believe and know who’s behind Ben’s seizure. We demand that the US-BS Aquino regime surface Ben and all the other victims of enforced disappearances. We demand justice. We demand that all butchers in this fascist government pay for the blood that they owe all workers’ rights advocates in the country.” Marasigan added.
Southern Tagalog workers drop threats to the BS Aquino administration that it surface Villeno now. The search for Villeno will never stop until justice gets served.
At 3:00 this afternoon, Villeno’s family, colleagues, and supporters hold a symbolic march in search for him. Wearing Villeno masks while massively handling out search-flyers, ST workers stage a protest action at Amar, Balibago, Sta. Rosa City.
