GMA camp: “Respect SC decision” – Look who’s talking?

The militant regional trade union center Pagkakaisa ng Manggagawa sa Timog Katagalugan-Kilusang Mayo Uno (PAMANTIK-KMU) slams the Arroyos’ argument to respect the Supreme Court’s decision after the high court on November 15 issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the watchlist order of the Department of Justice and allowing Mrs. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her entourage to leave the country.

The Arroyos have no moral ascendancy to claim respect for SC decision. The Filipino workers and people know such argument as a self-serving alibi to escape prosecution from her crimes of plunder and political repression.

Of course, the SC cannot be impartial on its ruling when most of the justices had been Arroyo appointees.

The government, during Mrs. Arroyo’s term, allowed the violation of favorable decisions while turning the table against the interest of the workers and the people.

The Arroyo government tolerated multinational Nestlé Philippines to shrug off the 1989 SC decision and its 2008 SC reaffirmation which stated that the retirement benefit a legitimate collective bargaining issue between the union and management. The Arroyo administration even intermittently deputized state forces to harass and disperse the Nestlé workers who were pushed to strike on January 14, 2002 in defence of the decision.

The Arroyo administration had no teeth to implement the high court’s 2007 decision in Nissan Motor Philippines labor case which mainly favored workers’ demands.

The SC, aside from its ruling on the Arroyo case, further debauched itself with its anti-worker and anti-people decisions such as that of the Flight Attendants’ and Stewards’ Association of the Philippines (FASAP) case, VAT on toll, and the Hacienda Luisita land issue.

The Aquino government, for its part, showed ineffective recourse to hold Arroyo accountable by failing to press charges against her in court. It publicly showed its hypocrisy in the Ninoy Aquino International Airport sensationalized commotions.

The workers in Southern Tagalog will continuously call for justice and hold Arroyo accountable for her crimes. The workers condemn the Aquino government for its insincerity to stand for the interests of the Filipino workers and people.###
